Welcome to one of the oldest inns in Franconia

“So let us tell you about beers, innkeepers and breweries, about kingsand mercenaries, of mercenaries and drinkers, of builders and guildsfrom over 400 years.”

According to a decree of the council from the 16th century, the citizens of theHofmarkt Fürth recommended “to drink red beer, so that both theGive the rich and the poor a penny with good, fair drinkwould be compared”.

The varied history of the inn dates back to the year1607 and is thus the oldest pub in the city. At that time there wasThere are already 9 breweries in the town of Fürth.

The two-storey sandstone building was built from 1725 to 1867 in theHand of the Löhe family, from which the theologian Wilhelm Löhe emerged.In 1847, Johann Leonhard Löhe bought the adjacent house no. 104 andinitiated extensive renovation and extension work, which gave the innits current appearance. In the following years, the mastersand journeymen of the bookbinding trade, the carpenters' guild of the goldbeatersand Büttner chose the “Green Tree” as their guild hostel.

On November 9, 1869, August Bebel, one of the founders of the SPD inGermany, his first lecture in Fürth on "Strivings and goals of theSocial Democratic Workers' Party" in the "Grüner Baum" inn.

To this day, the “Green Tree” is a house of clubs, guilds,of the councilors and a meeting place for the citizens of the city of Fürth and thegastronomic heart of Gustavstraße, which together with the market squareunchanged, the typical image of a small Franconian town from the 18th century.century shows.
